Here’s How Much Stephen Colbert’s #PuberMe Campaign Raised for Puerto Rico Aid (Video)

Friday, October 6, 2017

The results are in, and Stephen Colbert and Nick Kroll’s #PuberMe campaign is officially a huge success. As of Thursday’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the social media campaign has raised $1 million for recovery efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.

Colbert and Kroll launched the campaign last week, asking for celebrities to post awkward puberty photos of themselves to Twitter. For every photo celebrities posted, Colbert promised to make a donation of $1,000 from his AmeriCone Dream Fund towards Puerto Rico hurricane relief. Nick Kroll also pledged a donation of his own. See some of the results here.

Here’s how it broke down: First, Colbert said that a total of $233,000 would be donated by the AmeriCone Dream Fund for the (we assume) 233 celebrities who participated. Colbert then spoke via telephone to Kroll, who donated another $100,000. Colbert then revealed that CBS had agreed to match that new total, bringing the amount to $633,000. Then Colbert threw in another $266,000 on behalf of the non-celebrities who participated in #PuberMe, after which Kroll donated another $67,000, bringing the total to $999,000.

So where’d the last thousand dollars come from? As it turns out, Lin-Manuel Miranda in a surprise appearance on the show. See it in the clip below:
