SAG-AFTRA, Producers Agree to Second Extension in Contract Negotiations

Sunday, July 2, 2017

SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have extended contract negotiations another day, a spokesperson for the former told TheWrap.

This is the second such extension since their current deal expired Friday night.

Both sides have agreed to a day-by-day policy, a game of sudden death as they hammer out contentious issues like overtime minimums and travel stipends for actors on location.

Last Sunday, SAG-AFTRA’s national board of directors unanimously voted to move forward with a strike vote if terms weren’t met to their satisfaction. Actors have not gone on strike in the theatrical business since 1980.

“We have presented reasonable proposals to address the critical concerns facing our members and that are integral to making a living in this industry,” SAG said Friday in a statement.

“The AMPTP has responded with outrageous rollbacks that cut to the core of our basic terms and conditions. Despite our efforts, the AMPTP has failed to make sufficient progress on our most critical issues. The status quo is simply unacceptable,” they concluded.

Talks are being held in Los Angeles. Check back with TheWrap for the latest updates, and read our complete coverage here.
