Samantha Bee: The U.S. Should Treat Immigrants ‘Better Than Sea Monkeys’ (Video)
The host of “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” wasted no time taking the Trump administration to task, following her apology for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c–t” last week by slamming Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
After a heartfelt apology to the people she offended with her comment about Ivanka Trump, Bee brought up another topic from last week’s episode: The Trump administration’s policy of separating the children of illegal immigrants from their parents when they try to cross the U.S. border.
As part of her monologue during the segment, Bee said the U.S. shouldn’t be treating families of illegal immigrants “like sea monkeys.”

Bee discussed the 11,000 children are being held in government custody separated from their parents, giving a rundown of the situation. Even people seeking asylum are separated from their children, as a news clip Bee showed noted, and some parents didn’t know what happened to their children for as long as two weeks.
“But you have to understand, it’s not our government’s fault they have to collect these kids like Pokemon,” Bee said sarcastically. “Just ask Homeland Security Secretary and classic third stepmom type Kirstjen Nielsen.”
Bee then played a clip of Nielsen outlining an argument against people calling for a change in the immigration policy.
“They think illegal aliens should get different, perhaps better treatment than U.S. citizens, because they happen to be illegal aliens,” Nielsen said in the clip. “No jail if they have a family, no critical consequences if they have children.”
Bee responded to Nielsen’s comments directly.
“‘Kijerstajen,’ all the J’s in the world couldn’t make up for your lack of compassion,” Bee said. “No one is saying that we should treat immigrants better than citizens. We are saying that they should treat them better than sea monkeys — as in, don’t keep them in boxes and ship them wherever. These people aren’t criminals, they’re families struggling to survive.”
Bee also showed a clip that mentioned the administration is apparently housing children in a vacant big box store, which the government wouldn’t allow anyone to enter to see how the children were doing, including Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley.
“Is it possible that this new strategy will reduce immigration? Hard to say,” Bee continued. “I don’t know if treating people this terribly is going to stop people from wanting to come here, but I do know it’s not going to do anything to fix what they’re running away from. As an American and a parent, I’m sickened by this and I’m saddened by this.”
